#GOT Comes to DC

During a weekend visit to DC, I spent almost 2 hours in line to get into the city’s latest attraction – the Game of Thrones Pop Up Bar. A line formed at least an hour before doors officially opened at 5:00 p.m. Two family members who share the same excitement for the extremely popular series on HBO, joined me in awe of the well decorated venue. It felt like we were journeying through a mini Westeros!

There’s an epic tale of a singing mermaid longing to live on land happily ever after with her dark haired, prince.

This is a tale of an ocean loving queen walking the Earth in confidence, living life by her own rules – what evil sea witch? She’s stumbled a few times to find her way and has even kissed a few frogs, coming to the conclusion that her king survived that shipwreck and the stars in their galaxies will align. But, that won’t complete her story…

America’s Cup Bermuda

What’s the America’s Cup? That’s the same question I had in 2014 when Bermuda was announced as the location for its 35th World Series event which took place this summer. For over 150 years, international sailing teams have been competing for possession of the exclusive Americas Cup trophy – an immaculate figure made of silver which isn’t to be touched by bare hands. It travels in its own Luis Vuitton case and is normally handled with care by two guards wearing white gloves.

The America’s Cup Village (AC) opened up in June where hundreds of spectators watched a series of sailing regattas for about one month, while participating in some of the attractions the village had to offer. There were specially themed days like women’s day, and concerts featuring artists like NeYo and Kes. The event was covered nationally by NBC Sports.

My time in the AC village was well spent – visiting the Bermuda tourism booth where I graciously received a Rum Swizzle flavored lip balm, sitting comfortably under an umbrella on an extremely comfortable bean bag chair on blue turf and enjoying a cool bubbly beverage at the Moet bar.

In the end, Oracle TeamUSA was defeated by Team New Zealand – where the trophy finds its new home. For more about the AC and coverage in Bermuda visit https://www.americascup.com/en/home.html
